Shabby Chic Dollhouse renovation: Phase two

I've made good progress with this dollhouse. In this post I will share photos of phase two, which consisted mainly of sanding the house and painting it with wood primer. It is a laborious task and one I'm not particularly fond of!

Sanding and priming the house.

Next time: Phase three. We're finally painting!

Film Canister miniatures

Last month at our dollhouse club we did a film canister challenge. We were given film canisters to transform into anything miniature and this is what I came up with.

Miniature gift wrap storage containers for a doll house

I have to tell you, mine was about the plainest and simplest of all the creations! The other's were amazing! Anything from lighthouses, to trees with owls, to the winner who made a little camping scene with a caravan (from the canister) with teeny tiny furniture inside! I was speechless! People are so creative!

Miniature envelopes and notebook

I am working on a diorama for my craft room. Here are some of the items I've made so far: a teeny tiny notebook and a bundle of envelopes - love letters, no doubt!

Miniature painting for doll house: tropical beach

Two new miniature paintings of tropical beaches available on the website.  Lovely wall art, ideal for your 12th scale doll house or for the collector of miniature paintings. As always, please note, my items are not suitable for children under the age of 14, they are intended for adult collectors and miniature enthusiasts.

12th scale landscape

I finally picked up my paint brushes, dusted them off and started painting for the first time in months! Painted a 12th scale doll house miniature landscape. A bridge over a tranquil river. Clearly I will need time to get my techniques dusted too, but I'm trying out something new (for me) - combining Watercolour pencils and Acrylic paint on watercolour paper. Not happy with the big tree at all, and the more I tried to fix it, the worse it got!

Miniature pin board

I made a pin board over the weekend to go into a craft room scene I want to create in a shadow box. The box was a bargain find at a car boot sale. I will add more pictures and items to the board later, but so far it has a vintage postcard; and two pictures of the Amalfi Coast in Italy on display. I would SO love to live there one day. It's just beautiful!

Miniature scene in cigar box

In an attempt to get my mojo back / my creative juices flowing / lift myself out of this artistic slump I'm in.... I thought I'd play around with room boxes today. I've created these miniature scenes in wooden cigar boxes.

Hat, bags and hat boxes

I just realised I never shared my red sun hat and bags with you when I made them. So before I show you the hat boxes we made at last week's club meeting, here they are:

Miniature hat and handbag

I've been practising making miniature hats and handbags. Lots of trial and error still, but I'm making progress and having loads of fun!

Blue felt hat and handbag.
Not happy with the rim, but I've figured out a way to avoid that in future.

Black, white and grey hat and handbag
I quite like this one. Looks perfect for a day at the race course, don't you think?

Miniature Hat

At our last doll house club meeting, we made these hats. I think mine turned out quite all right for a first attempt. I found it very relaxing to make and had so much fun, I definitely will be making more. Judging by the colours, you might guess I plan on using it for my Shabby Chic house!

Refurbished vintage dollhouse furniture

Remember the set of vintage furniture I showed you weeks ago, hoping to find more information about it? Well, I didn't! Which just confirmed what I suspected - it was probably home made. So, I set about trying to refurbish it. I started with the chairs. Not an easy task I can tell you. The wood is very old and soft and started deteriorating in front of my eyes as I was sanding it. In the end I had to leave some of the paint as is, in order to prevent too much damaged to the chairs. It's far from perfect, but then again, getting it perfect was never my intention, as it is vintage furniture after all!

This is what they used to look like:

I have to say, I LOVE how it turned out! This is exactly what I had in mind when I purchased it and I'm thrilled to bits. I wanted them for the veranda of my GeeBee house and they're going to fit perfectly!  I still have to make little cushions for them, will show you whenever that is done.

This is what they look like now:
